Senate Democrats are resisting the advancement of landmark stablecoin legislation, citing President Donald Trump’s growing personal interests in cryptocurrency. The Guiding and Establishing National Innovation for U.S. Stablecoins of 2025 (GENIUS Act) faces opposition from at least nine Democratic senators, including Ruben Gallego of Arizona, who received significant backing from crypto super PAC Fairshake.

The stalemate threatens to delay not only the stablecoin bill but also forthcoming market structure legislation. Despite the hurdles, insiders suggest the stablecoin bill may still pass Congress, though the political friction highlights the increasingly partisan divide over crypto regulation.
